Long Distance Walkers Association Filey Flyer Challenge Event

Four Pickering Running Club members took part in the Long Distance Walkers Association Filey Flyer Challenge Event. The circular route starts from St John’s Church in Filey taking in the Cleveland Way, Wolds Way and Centenary Way. Participants choose whether they want to do the 16 mile short course or the 23 mile long course. It is then up to them whether they walk, run or a combination of the two, provided they pass all checkpoints within allotted time limits.

The weather was fine at the start. Conditions were very breezy along the Wolds Way which hindered progress up to the half-way point of the event. However this meant there was a tail wind for most of the return leg of the route. Excellent conditions under foot resulted in Steve Watson, Bob Horsman and Lorraine Laycock (running as a threesome) completing the long route in exactly 4.00 hrs. It was also tremendous to see 75 year old Syd Youngson return to form by completing the short route in 4.42 hrs.
