Half marathon happiness!

Lizzy Wise's picture

Sunday dawned with perfect running conditions, very chilly but bright and sunny and the Wises headed to Harewood House near Leeds to run the half marathon in aid of the British Heart Foundation.  The course was challenging and covered 13.1 miles over tricky terrain including mud and rocky tracks with plenty of steep hills to climb – an overall ascent of 1,200 feet.  Almost 1,000 runners joined the Wises to run through the glorious estates enjoying sights of deer and red kites.

First back and pleased with her time was Lizzy Wise in 2.01.26 and in the top sixth of the female competitors. She was especially glad to have stayed on her feet whilst admiring the red kites en-route.  Sister Jennifer Wise was the next back in 2.13.08 putting in an impressive performance to keep going despite some mid race hunger and some very nasty blisters developing from running on the rough ground.  Mother Nicola Wise was not too far behind to finish in 2.19.00 running strong up the hills, all good training for London marathon in two months time.  Father Dean Wise rounded off the crew and finished in 2.56.24 with a smile after finding the course challenging but employing his steely determination to finish.

A more popular 10k option was also on offer, covering much of the same route as the half marathon and therefore just as tough.  Jennifer Wilkin was the only PRC representative and had a great race following some initial pre-race nerves to finish in 1.01.08, well done!

Also picking some stunning scenery to run in Pam Garnett headed up to Northumberland to take part in the Endurance Life coastal trail series.  This was Pam’s first off road race and up for a challenge she opted for the half marathon distance. Although the sun was shining the wind chill made it feel below freezing which added to the challenge of running from Craster to Bamburgh hugging the coastline and taking in many picturesque beaches and bleak headlands.  Pam was really pleased to finish in under three hours and her final time was 2.56.19 and would recommend the race series to all!
