On a sunny evening on 20th June, 104 runners took on the 4th counter in the Esk Valley Dave Parry/ Let’s Run Summer Fell Race series. The Whorlton run takes runners over a tough course, with a fast and flat first mile followed by some challenging climbs to complete the just under 7 mile course. Runners had to contend with some serious midges, but raised over £300 for the Whorlton Playing Field. Alex Thornton and Rachael Harper represented Pickering Running Club. Alex came in at 58:53, followed by Rachael in 60:46 and 5th in category.

On a very hot Sunday on 24th June, Pickering Running Club joined 16 other teams to run the Cleveland Way Relay.  The club team was organised by Debbie and Simon Rycroft, who joined the team of runners, along with Nick Cousins, Russ Grayson and Russ Charlton, Clare Mawrey, Kim Cavill, Amanda Welburn-Smith, Jennifer Wise, Lizzy Wise and Nicola Wise, David Stephenson and Dave Owuor, Jenny Storrie, Kelly Gaughan and Heather Farrow, Simon Jones, Graham Robinson and Paul Smith.  The relay race takes place over the full length of the Cleveland Way, from Filey to Helmsley, over 16 legs. Runners started at 5am in Filey, aiming to finish in Helmsley in time for fish and chips. The PRC team put in a great performance, to finish in 18:07:15, and coming 6th in the ‘A’ team category and 11th overall.
