Thursday evening was hot and sunny for the annual Pickering Running Club championship race.  31 club members tackled a tough 6.5 mile course round Dalby Forrest including a long drag up Heck Dale before flying downhill to the finish. Kim Cavil and Nick Cousins organised the evening and they were excellently supported by club members resting up for future races or recovering from injury.

First back was Simon Jones (40.59) with Peter Allen (43.13) in second place. Then came Ben Myers (44.57), Jonny Everitt (46.10), 1st male over 50 Paul Smith (46.45), 1st male over 60 Paul Robinson (46.50) and the 1st male over 40 Rich Johnson (48.18). They were followed by Simon Tyrell (49.40), Andy Harvey (49.57) who finished in a great time despite getting lost, Russ Charlton (50.03) and Mike Wilson (51.37).

1st lady back for the club was Lizzy Wise (52.31) with David Owuor (53.18) and Kelly Gaughan (53.19) battling it out behind. Next back was our Australian visitor Tracey (53.31), 1st lady over 60 Heather Farrow (54.15), Paul Smith (54.26), 1st lady over 35 Serena Partridge (55.10), 1st male over 70 Mike Hetherton (55.42), Jenny Storrie (56.10), David Stephenson (57.42), Amanda Welburn-Smith (57.15) and 1st lady over 50 Sue Slack (58.40).

Next back were Nicola Wise (1.02.48), Rebecca Bruce and Jennifer Wise crossing the line together (1.04.35), Shirley Tyrell (1.05.05), new grandad Mike Punchard (1.09.05), Pam Garnett (1.09.14), Philly Hare (1.11.25) and finally Hillary Turner who put in the best performance of the night to finish in 1.20.25 taking home the prize for the 1st lady over 70.

All the club then headed to Lockton village hall to feast on tasty home-made food and enjoy the prize giving.  New members are welcome to join in the fun!

The Castle Howard trail races are also another firm fixture for the club who help to run the event with Welburn Primary School.  Paul Smith entered the 6k option which was one lap round the trails alongside the estate and ran a superb race to finish in 3rd place in 27.38.  Steve Riley also took on the shorter route and finished 5th in 28.22.

The other club members taking part opted for the 10k which included a second lap.  First back for the club was Jonny Everitt who ran very strong to finish in 48.55 in 11th place.  Lizzy Wise bagged the 4th fastest female finisher spot in 56.07 with Kelly Gaughan not far behind in 7th in 59.40.  Nicola Wise had a great race to finish in 1.07.37 as the fastest lady over 55 and daughter Jennifer Wise wasn’t too far behind in 1.10.30.

Simon Jones and Serena Partridge headed to Masham to take on the tough but picturesque Burn valley half marathon. The route is run all on roads through the scenic villages on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.  Simon demonstrated his fine form to finish in 8th place in 1.30.05 out of 227 competitors.  Serena also had a fantastic race and finished in 2.18.39.

Jane Simpson headed to York Knavesmire for the Chocolate 10k which boasted a fantastic chocolate themed good bag which hopefully didn’t melt in the sunshine!  Jane stayed cool to finish in 57.34.

Finally a group from PRC headed to Tom’s Bransdale fell race.  A spectacular course run across the moors in the cooler weather of the evening.  Taking part were Mike Heatherton, Heather Farrow, Mike Wilson, Jenny Storrie, Philly Hare, Russ Charlton, Gemma Fearnley, Ruth Hope, Peter Allen and Graham Robinson.  The group all ran really well but unfortunately no prizes were won by the team.
