The It’s Grim Up North race series headed to Duncombe park to host a weekend of running round the beautiful but hilly estate.  On the Saturday Lizzy Wise joined the 10k which due to a navigational error ended up being 14k!  Wise ran well in the heat to finish in 1.26.08 as 4th lady.  A larger crowd from Pickering were there on the Sunday mainly taking on a half marathon – two laps of the tough climbs!  Ben Myers ran superbly to finish in 3rd place in 1.14.38.  first back for the ladies was Juliette Pilgrim in 2.10.40 followed by Serena Partridge in 2.15.14, Heather Farrow in 2.16.13, Gemma Fearnley in 2.20.09 and mother and daughter Nicola and Lizzy Wise finished in 2.31.27.  Father Dean wise finished the tough course in 3.24.03.  Kelly Gaughan wanted a tougher challenge so ran the three laps for the 20 mile race and after some determined running was thrilled to finish in 1st place in 3.14.33.  20 miles wasn’t enough for Michael Todd who ran 5 laps for the ultra distance and was very strong in the heat to finish in 1st place in 5.00.02.

Also in the heat Kat Smith took part in the Burton Leonard 10k and clocked a superb finish in 1.16.44.

Debbie and Simon Rycroft headed to North Wales to tackle the Scott Snowdon trail races. Debbie completed the half marathon in 3.17.04 to finish 7th in her age category while Simon completed the full marathon in 4.39.35 to finish 22nd out of 698 competitors.  Both distances included a tough climb up Snowdon and a terrifying descent down the rugged landscape.

The next in the Esk Valley summer series of fell races was the Viking Chase Viking chase which started from the Lordstones on the North York Moors. The race covered 7.5 miles and almost 2,000 feet of climbing.  Michael Hetherton was first back for the club in 1.47.26 and showed his usual determination and strength to finish first in his age category.  Graham Robinson wasn’t far behind in 1.48.59 with Mike Punchard rounding off the trio in 2.06.19.

Bishopthorpe hosted the final race in the summer road race league.  The start times for the flat course were determined by the average finish time of the previous races with the expectation being that all runners finish together!  A big well done to Jennifer Wise, Jenny Storrie and Simon Tyrell who finished in the top 25 to earn themselves a t-shirt. Also a big congratulation to Michael Hetherton who was presented with the prize for the top finisher across the series for the over 70 age category.  Race times for the night were: Peter Allen (39.00), Paul Robinson (43.06) Simon Tyrell  (46.23), Mike Wilson (46.55), Lizzy Wise (49.01), Ruth Kaftirani (49.32), Heather Farrow (49.35), Kelly Gaughan (50.21), Chris Adams (50.51), Serena Partridge (51.09), Jenny Storrie (51.33), Jane Simpson (53.12), Kate Towse (54.00), Harriet Warnock (54.44), Jennifer Wise (54.48), Nicola Wise (56.21), Michael Hetherton (57.09), Shirley Tyrell (58.31), Pam Garnett (59.37), Mike Punchard (1.03.31), Sally Brown (1.06.14) and Dean Wise (1.06.18).  The runners then retired to a local pub for a well earned pie and peas!
