Bank Holiday fun!

PRC members took advantage of the long Bank Holiday weekend to run races both local and international.

A small group of club runners competed in the Smugglers Trod Long Distance Walk Association event, which offered a 17 or 25 mile route option, both starting and finishing at Flyingthorpe Village Hall. Runners enjoyed perfect weather conditions and fabulous views over the rolling moors and coastline. Simon Rycroft was overall winner of the short route in a speedy 2:22. Also taking on this course were Debbie Rycroft who finished in 4:18, Gemma Fearnley and Serena Partridge who crossed the line together in 4:19, and Nick Cousins, finishing in in 3:02. Lizzy Wise took on the long route, finishing in an impressive 6:52.

Whilst on holiday in Ireland, Nicola and Dean Wise went along to the Armargh City Festival of Running, and couldn’t resist joining in the half marathon, despite the rain. Nicola achieved a half marathon PB, finishing in 1:59:56.  Dean crossed the line in 2:32:25.

Also whilst on holiday, Andy Harvey entered the Essex Mersea Island 10 mile road race. The route was hillier than expected, with the added difficulties of another race taking place at the same time and heavy traffic. Despite these challenges, Andy was pleased to achieve a PB of 75:47, and finish 33rd out of 140 runners.  Juliette Pilgrim also tried her hand at a 10 mile race, in Gilberdyke, and was also thrilled to get a PB, crossing the line in 1:19:12.

Kim Cavill joined runners from around the world in the the Matterhorn ultraks mountain race, a 32km race with 2000m of ascent,  Runners were challenged with a route that took them from Zermatt up to a high point close to the Matterhorn. Despite struggling with the altitude which affected her breathing, Kim showed great strength in her descent, overtaking a lot of the field and finally finishing 19th lady, in 4:26.

Closer to home, club runners joined the fun in Malton on Bank Holiday Monday, for the Marathon du Malton, an event inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc. This new 10k fun run treated runners to many food and drink stops along the route.  Over 200 runners turned out despite the soggy conditions, many in fancy dress. For PRC, Mike Punchard crossed the line in 1:16:58, followed by Pam Garnett in 1:20:33. Mike Hetherton had an amazing result, finishing 3rd male in 49:50.
