Two Pickering Running Club ladies took on the Great North Run, joining around 57,000 other runners for the iconic 13.1 mile race from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields.  First back was Amanda Welburn-Smith in a great time of 2.50.01 after struggling in the crowds and heat.  Pam Garnett also ran superbly to finish in 2.22.01, a minute slower than last year but a great time given the conditions.

Chris Adams headed to South Yorkshire to take on the It’s Grim up North Colliery Canter 20 mile event. The race was held in the Rabbit Ings country park on the site of a former coal mine and provided a challenging course.  This was Adams’s longest run ever and he power through some nasty cramps in the last 5 miles to finish in 3.04.59 taking a well earned 2nd place and 1st male finisher.  This bodes well for his York Marathon attempt in October.

Meanwhile Debbie Rycroft headed to Haworth in West Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Man off road half marathon.  A very tough course at 15 miles and with a lot of climbing on the rugged moorland trails.  The conditions were on Debbie’s side and she had a cracking run, knocking 16 minutes off her time from last year to finish in 2.47.07.
