Three brave Pickering Running Club members headed to York Knavesmire for the tough Turpin Challenge.  The event lasted six hours with competitors taking on as many of the 4.3 miles laps as they can which included tarmac, grass and woodland trails.  Out of the 140 competitors only one managed 8 laps and that was PRCs very own Amanda Welburn-Smith!  She ran a very strong race and showed her determination to keep going and she was over the moon with the result getting a well deserved 1st place finish.  Mother and daughter Nicola and Lizzy Wise kept going and completed 7 laps (just over 30 miles) to finish in joint 8th place with smiles on their faces.

The weekend also saw the first fryup frazzler fell race.  Run by the Esk Valley fell club this was a challenging race at around 9km with 400 meters of ascent on the rugged north Yorkshire moors.  First back for the club was Simon Tyrell in 60.37 with Graham Robinson not far behind in 67.28.  Debbie Rycroft completed the tough race in 69.52 (while husband Simon volunteered to marshal) followed by Mike Hetherton in 71.47.  Next was Shirley Tyrell in 78.54 and the group was rounded off by Philly Hare in 94.54.

Ben Myers and Jonny Everitt headed to Knaresborough for the Knaresborough Crag Rat Run.  The race took runners down the crag, along trails, through the woods and along the river Nidd then back up the Crag to finish after a very tough 5 miles.  Ben finished in a superb 10th place in a very speedy 31.53 with Jonny not far behind at all in 32.51 finishing 15th.

Peter Allen took in the fresh sea air in Filey for the 10k beach race.  The picturesque route takes the runners from Filey Country Park down the ravine to a lovely out and back section to Flamborough along the beach before the final tough climb to receive the well-earned finishers beer.  Allen battelled the brisk headwinds to finish in a fantastic 40 minutes.

Finally, Kim Cavill took on the Falls and Castle trail race from Bolton Castle.  The 18 mile circular route was run in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and took the runner past the lovely Aysgarth Falls along with other beautiful scenery.  Kim finished in a speedy 2.34.04 to take a fantastic 5th place and first female finisher out of the 42 competitors.
