On a bright autumn Sunday, 86 runners travelled to Lockton for the first race of the Esk Valley Fell Club’s 2018/2019 Dave Parry Let’s Run Winter Fell Race Series. The ‘Lockton Limping’ race covers a 7 mile route with over 1,000 feet of ascent.  Ben Myers was the first to cross the line for Pickering Running Club, coming 13th overall in 56:45. Russ Grayson was next to finish in 59:22, followed by Simon Rycroft in 63:35 and Michael Wilson in 66:34.  David Owuor had a great race to finish first in his age category in 66:53, followed closely by Nick Cousins in 67:49. With another age category win, Mike Hetherton crossed the line in 74:35, with Debbie Rycroft hot on his heels in 74:45 and 3rd in her category.  Graham Robinson was next to complete the challenging route in 75:32, followed by David Stephenson in 75:46 and Paul Smith in 80:05. Ailish Lilley completed a great day for the club, crossing the line in 130:00. The PRC men took 4th and 7th place in the men’s teams. A great start to the Winter Series!

Further afield, Chris Adams and Gemma Fearnley travelled over to Pontefract for the half marathon road race. Chris took it steady in preparation for an upcoming marathon, but still crossed the line in an impressive 1:46:45. Gemma completed in the fantastic time of 1:53:46.

A small group of club runners headed over to the coast for the Redcar half marathon. With a flat course and less wind than usual, the day promised the opportunity for some good performances. Simon Jones was running to heart rate as part of marathon preparation, and was very pleased with his time of 1:25:20. Serena Partridge, also training for a marathon, put in a solid performance, finishing in 1:52:16. Andy Harvey was determined to beat his previous event time of 1:41:40, which he did easily, finishing in 1:38:30. It was Andy’s fastest half marathon this century!
