PB's for PRC in the Rain

Lizzy Wise's picture

Last Sunday was particularly soggy which made for challenging running conditions for the many Pickering Running Club members who took part in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon and 10 mile events.  Over 7,000 runners took on the distances along flat country roads past the Minster and enjoying a high five from a merry vicar and the support of other club members!

First back in the marathon was Simon Jones who demonstrated his trademark speed to finish a superb 65th in 2.57.52 (3 seconds faster than last year).  Next back was Chris Adams who was thrilled with his time of 3.52.30 in his first marathon.  Serena Partridge ran well to finish in 3.56.08 very closely followed by Ruth Kaftirani who had a superb run to finish in 3.56.17.  Kelly Gaughan had a fantastic first marathon completing in 4.15.11.  Next back was Nicola Wise who paced her race excellently to finish in 4.21.38 and was 15th in her age category setting a new PB in the process.  Sue Slack ran in fancy dress (as a dog) raising money for guide dogs and completing in 4.51.37. Laura Neale ran superbly to finish in 5.10.16 and rounding off the pack was Dean Wise who got back in 5.48.08, a minute faster than last year.

Not fancying 26.2 miles a number of members (perhaps sensibly) went for the 10 miles option which was run over parts of the marathon course.  First back in a super speedy time was Ben Myers in a marvellous 1.04.07 – 1 minute faster than last year.  Jonny Everitt was not far behind to finish in 1.08.59.  Shawn Imeson ran a well paced 1.28.11 with Kate Towse not far behind in 1.30.45.  Mike Punchard showed his determination to get round finishing in 1.41.47 and Kat Smith finished in 2.04.42.

The rain was not confined to York and neither were the runners!  Pam Garnett and Amanda Welburn-Smith headed to London for the Royal parks half.  Both had amazing runs bagging personal bests each, Amanda in 1.56.51 and Pam in 2.11.22 (7 minutes faster than her previous best).

PRC must run faster in the rain as proved by Paul Tate-Smith who ran the Manchester Half marathon and also achieved a new personal best in 1.49.10 – well done!
