Trophies galore!

PRC club members braved the windy conditions to take on the fast and flat Brass Monkeys half marathon on 13th January, starting and finishing at York racecourse.  The event was well-organised with supportive marshals, and the bonus of free cake for all runners at the end! For Christopher Adams, this was the first time he had taken on this challenge. Following a few months of being unable to train, he was happy with his time of 1:48:25, digging in deep to finish strongly in the last 3 miles.  Heather Farrow was hot on his heels, crossing the line in an impressive 1:48:54 and taking first place in her age category. Amanda Welburn-Smith finished not long after in 1:54:38.  Pam Garnett found it tough in the wind but was happy to come in under 2 and a half hours, in 2:26:00.

Away from the city on the coast, new club member Alison Hyde took part in the Long Distance Walk Association Scarborough Rock Challenge.  The long route of 26 miles started in Scarborough, taking in the coast, Oliver’s Mount, the moors, Hackness, Burniston and Scalby before returning to Scarborough, with nearly 3,000 feet of ascent along the route. Alison was very pleased with her time of 5:14:00 for this challenging event. Nick Cousins also took part in the long course, crossing the line in 5:12:00.

PRC also celebrated some great results for our club ladies in the Hardmoors marathon and half marathon 2018 series. At the series presentation event at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub, Amanda Welburn-Smith was very proud to pick up her trophy for taking an excellent 3rd lady position in the half marathon series. Juliette Pilgrim was also up for a trophy for her impressive 3rd lady result in the marathon series. Unfortunately Juliette couldn’t be there to pick up her trophy, but received a loud cheer from other PRCers there!
