Pickering Running club were out in force at the first of the Hardmoors 26.2 race series for 2019 and fortunately the weather made for pleasant running conditions (for February) for the races taking place in and around Saltburn.

The marathon option covered 29 miles over tough terrain taking in scenic coastal paths and tough moorland climbs. The total elevation for the runners to climb was almost 4,500 feet over tricky terrain, particularly up Highcliff Nab on the Cleveland Way.  Bridget Houlston raced for a superb 1st female finish in 5 hours and 3 minutes.  Alison Hyde continued PRCs winning streak finishing as first in her age category and 7th female overall in 5 hours and 35 minutes.

A more popular option for the club was the half marathon which at 14 miles and nearly 2,000 feet of elevation was also a very tough challenge.  Chris Adams was first back for the club in a swift 2 hours and 37 minutes.  Amanda Welburn-Smith had a fantastic race and really enjoyed herself to finish in 2 hours 42 minutes – almost 30 minutes faster than last year.  Jenny Storrie was next back finishing strong in 2 hours and 47 minutes.  Philly Hare had a great race to finish the demanding course in 3 hours and 45 minutes

The last option available was the 10k which included extra distance to come in at 7.5miles with almost 1,000 feet of climb.  The course hugged the coastline quite closely and the runners were rewarded with fabulous views. Ruth Kaftirani had a great run making it first back for the club and taking 2nd female finisher in the process in 1 hour and 12 minutes.  Heather Farrow was next back showing fantastic form and finished in 1 hour and 15 minutes to take 5th female overall and 1st in her age category and was also 10 minutes quicker than last year.  Kelly Gaughan really enjoyed her first Hardmoors event and finished in 1 hour and 19 minutes with Michael Hetherton hot on her heels only 6 seconds behind taking the trophy home for 1st in his age category.  Sally Raines showed fine form to complete the challenge in 1 hour and 43 minutes
