Bumper PRC turnout

Almost all members of Pickering Running Club were out racing last weekend in the glorious and unseasonable February sunshine.

Those travelling furthest headed to the Endurancelife coastal run in Northumberland.  The race took in fabulous views along the seaside and some scrambling across slippery seaweed covered rocks and strength sapping climbs up sand dunes.  Lynn Humpleby was back running in her first event since the birth of her daughter last year and ran with friend Jen Wilkin and was pleased to finish in 1 hour and 12 minutes.  Pam Garnett fancied a bit more of a challenge and took on the half marathon option.  Pam had a fantastic race and knocked 15 minutes off her time last year to finish in a superb 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Closer to home was the Pocklington Snake Lane 10 mile road race.  Taking part along the winding snake like roads the mildly undulating course is perfect for setting PBs especially when there is no breeze blowing across the flat landscape.  First back for the club was Paul Robinson in 1.12.09 who knocked a fantastic 9 minutes off his fastest time for the distance.  Next back was Laura Echarri who was really pleased to complete her first ever 10 mile race in a speedy time of 1.20.31 despite suffering from some nasty blisters.  Lizzy Wise was not far behind in 1.20.53 knocking 90 seconds off her PB.  Kelly Gaughan was over the line next in 1.24.57 followed by Nicola Wise setting herself a new PB in 1.29.30.  Exactly 4 minutes later Jennifer Wise crossed the finish line and rounding off the Pocklington team was Dean Wise finishing in 1.47.59.

There was a bumper turnout for the Heartbeat Hobble, part of the Esk Valley fell run series with 19 members running over the moors around Goathland.  The recent dry weather and sunshine made for nice runnable trails and speedy times.  Peter Allen was first for PRC and 9th overall in 48.15, followed by Simon Rycroft 50.56, Russ Grayson in 51.35 and Russell Charlton in 57.41.  In close competition Andy Harvey, Paul Smith, Kim Cavill and Rich Johnson finished in 58.45, 58.55, 59.01 and 59.02 respectively.    Michael Wilson finished 10 seconds ahead of Nick Cousins in 61.31 and 61.41.  Michael Hetherton finished in 65.27 taking home 2nd in age category.  Finishing in close succession were Karen Farmer-Scott 70.03, Gemma Fearnley 70.04, David Stephenson 70.27 and Sue Slack in 70.57 with Sue also winning her age category.  Simon Thomas finished in 78.54 with Anita Radini only seconds behind in 79.01.  Sally Brown completed the course in 86.28 to finish second in her age category with Philly Hare not far behind in 89.34 taking 3rd in age category.  Overall it was a successful day for the club who were the third placed male team and 5th placed female team.
