Welcome

The Club Chairman, Syd Youngson, welcomed all of the club members present to the Extraordinary General Meeting.

Scene Setting

Steve Hampshire and Peter Winter explained to members the differences between membership of England Athletics (EA) and the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).

The EA requires more policies, a constitution and qualified coaches to lead runs. Without qualified coaches the club insurance may be invalid.

ARC is less formal and provides insurance without the need for formally qualified coaches.

There are three options,

  1. Remain in the EA.
  2. Leave the EA and join the ARC.
  3. Remain in the EA and also join the ARC.

Discussion

Following a discussion each member present gave their opinion on the three options and then a vote was taken.

Vote

The result of the vote was as follows.

Option 1 – 1 vote

Option 2 - 1 vote

Option 3 – 23 votes

Abstentions – 1 vote

Way forward

The club will join both EA and ARC next year. This will mean that we will not require qualified coaches to lead training runs but where a member wants to gain that qualification the club will consider funding the course. A constitution and policies will be written during the course of the year as the club requires these to be compliant with EA.
