G&H report (I’ll put Pocklington in next week)

Another busy week of events for Pickering Running Club
Tom Pilley competed in the Madeira Ultra Trail race, 26.3 miles of stunning scenery with a huge 5,886 feet of climb. Tom managed to complete the course in an amazing time of 5 hours 8 minutes.
Closer to home were the Hardmoors Wainstones races. The Wainstones are the toughest in the Hardmoors series taking runners along the northern edge of the North York Moors along technical rocky paths. Runners need strength and endurance to climb the many uneven steps and bravery and an element of foolhardiness to charge back down them! Added to this are the Hardmoors bonus miles! Michael Todd came 2nd in the marathon distance, 28 miles with over 5,000 feet of elevation, clocking an incredible time of 4 hours 30 minutes. Louise Parkin was delayed by 15 minutes due to queues at the first stile but powered through to finish strongly in 6 hours 45 minutes.
The half marathon option was 16.8 miles with 3,600 feet of elevation. Bridget Houlston had a fantastic run finishing in 3 hours 11 minutes earning her a trophy for 3rd female and Charlotte Dennison ran a steady pace clocking 5 hours 6 minutes.
The last counter in the Let’s Run Dave Parry Winter Fell Race Series, Bilsdale, also took place at the weekend. The 12.3 mile route across the moors packed in over 3,200 feet of elevation with some brutal climbs. Despite a navigational error Dave Smith was first back for PRC in a super speedy 2 hours 3 minutes closely followed by Simon Jones also clocking 2 hours 3 minutes.. Karen Farmer-Scott had another brilliant race finishing in 2 hours 37 minutes earning her the 1st F55 prize. Lucy Saggers came next in 2 hours 57 minutes. Alice Hayter and Serena Partridge both finished in 4 hours 10 minutes. The final Series results are eagerly awaited as some PRC prizes are expected.
The annual Kirkbymoorside 10k took place on Sunday. A popular and joyous local event with a fantastic charge down the Main Street to the finish cheered on by enthusiastic crowds. The beautiful weather paved the way for excellent performances. First back for PRC was Paul Simpson in a blistering time of 40 minutes 20 seconds very closely followed by Chris Croft also in 40 minutes 20 seconds, Ryan Gaughan in 40 minutes 51 seconds and Kelly Richmond, winning the prize for 2nd female, in 40 minutes 54 seconds. Mike Richmond was hot on their heels in 40 minutes 56 seconds, then came Richard Robinson in 41 minutes 41 seconds and Ollie Baxter, in his first run with PRC, in 42 minutes 54 seconds. They were closely followed by a trio of Paul’s: Paul Hickman in 44 minutes 27 seconds, Paul Robinson in 47 minutes 42 seconds and Paul Smith in 47 minutes 44 seconds. Ruth Kaftirani was 2nd F40 in 48 minutes 54 seconds followed by Kirsty Brown in 50 minutes 24 seconds, Rich Johnson in 51 minutes 19 seconds, Suzy Hodgson in 52 minutes 30 seconds, Lynn Humpleby in 54 minutes 3 seconds and Yuri Semenov in 56 minutes 12 seconds. Mike Hetherton’s time of 56 minutes 45 seconds placed him 2nd M70. Next to cross the line was Fiona Darrell, in her first race with PRC, in 60 minutes 44 seconds, Sally Edwards in 65 minutes 16 seconds, Lisa Adams in 66 minutes 27 seconds and Vikkie Barnes in 73 minutes 42 seconds.
