Last weekend was a quiet one for races with only 2 events to report.
Simon Rycroft ran the Chevy Chase, a 20 mile route through some of the finest upland scenery in Northumberland. Based in Wooler, it was a tough challenge with competitors having to summit both Cheviot, 2676 feet, and Hedgehog, 2348 feet. With a total climb and precipitous descents of over 5,300 feet, runners certainly needed to be sure-footed. The route was unmarked allowing runners to choose their own path as long as they visited the manned checkpoints in the correct order. Simon Rycroft had an excellent run finishing 29th out of 120 finishers in a time of 4 hours and 4 minutes.
Also at the weekend, 242 people took to the sand in the Bridlington 5k beach race. It was a short race for long distance veteran, Graham Robinson who finished in 44 minutes 3 seconds.
Tuesday evening saw 435 club runners take part in the 6th 10k in the York & District Road Race League based in Wistow. The figure of eight route along quiet country lanes was almost completely flat giving an advantage to runners good at pacing themselves. The stiff breeze helped to cool runners on the way back but also made it harder work. It was a great turnout from PRC with 27 runners competing. Josie Rawes was first to cross the line for Pickering and her outstanding time of 38 minutes 8 seconds placed her second female overall. There followed a tight battle for the second PRC runner to cross the line with Richard Robinson just winning out with his time of 40:28 only seconds ahead of Mike Richmond in 40:32, Kelly Richmond in 40:35 and Jonny Everitt in 40:44. Kirsty Brown was justifiably delighted with a 10k personal best of 42:53, her 1st sub 43 minute 10k. Kirsty was followed by Paul Hickman in 44:22, Charles Corbett in 46:20, Dave Owuor in 46:54, Adam Lloyd in 47:01 and Ben Paviour in 47:07. Paul Robinson proved his dominance in the M70 category, claiming gold with his time of 48:32. Peter Kelham was next back in 49:11, followed by Serena Partridge in 51:10, Nick Cousins in 51:36, Sarah Beal in 51:58 and Suzy Hodgson in 53:25. Chloe Riley continues to go from strength to strength with another 10k personal best time of 54:10. Chloe was followed by Shawn Imeson in 55:27, Karen Harper in 57:53, Lydia Adrian in 58:12, Chris Adams in 59:14, Paul Tate-Smith in 59:17, Sally Brown in 62:12, Nicola Wise in 62:32, Dean Wise in 70:22 and Heather Riley in 70:48.
The final event in this brilliant series of races, the reverse handicap, will take place in 2 weeks time followed by a prize giving when the leagues winners will be announced.
