This weekend, PRC ran 470 miles in races. That’s got to be a record!
The top mileage goes to Debbie Rycroft who joined 789 runners taking part in the Lakeland 100 mile race based in Coniston. The stunning circular route starts Friday evening and takes in many of the Lakeland peaks some of which competitors have to navigate during the hours of darkness, Friday night and into Saturday night. Unfortunately Debbie developed unanticipated chronic knee pain which made descending extremely painful. This meant she was unable to keep up enough speed to make the cutoff and so was timed out after an incredible 78 miles with nearly 16,000 feet of elevation and 29 hours on her feet. To have got so far takes courage and strength with a huge helping of mental fortitude. Well done, Debbie. 282 other runners also didn’t make it to the finish.
4 PRC runners opted for the 50 mile race joining nearly 1,500 competitors on the start line. This was still a formidable challenge with nearly 10,000 feet of climb. Nearly 100 didn’t make it to the end.
Lucy Saggers had an excellent run. Pacing herself to perfection, Lucy crossed the finish line in 12 hours 26 minutes. Erin Outram finished in 14:44 and Kelly Barrett in 16:10. Charlotte Dennison’s race did not go according to plan. Charlotte tripped over a tree root halfway round and fell badly, cutting her knee, hurting her hand and generally acquiring a number of painful bruises. Charlotte showed her physical and emotional strength by continuing to the end despite her injuries and finishing in 19:46, 4 hours longer than expected.
Closer to home, Ultra Trail Wolds 54k took place, a 34 mile circular route based near Pocklington with over 4,000 feet of climb. Mike Richmond came 5th overall and 1st M50 in an amazing time of 5 hours 22 minutes. Kelly Richmond also had an excellent race and was 8th overall and 2nd female with her time of 5:33. Simon Jones was 28th overall in 6:30. A great team.
Dean and Nicola Wise ran the Northumberland Coastal 14, a gorgeous annual race along beaches, coastal paths, through sand dunes and this year, due to the high tide, some scrambling around a rocky headland. Both thoroughly enjoyed their favourite race with Nicola finishing in 2 hours 38 minutes and Dean in 3:13.
Ravenscar Rumble, the latest in the summer fell race series also took place this week. Not for the faint hearted as there is nearly 1,000 feet of climb crammed into the 6 mile route with some steep downhill sections. Robbie Preston finished in 49 minutes 23 seconds, placing him 19th overall out of 87. Malc Hodgson was next in 53:23, 2nd M60, followed by Paul Smith in 59 minutes 10 seconds, 3rd M65, Jemima Edwards in 62:08, 3rd F45 and Jo Towler in 63:40, 2nd F50.
Russ Grayson ran the James Herriot Trail Race, a 14k race on moorland tracks around Bolton Castle.
Russ Grayson finished in a very competitive 78 minutes 55 seconds.
Shawn Imeson ran the Emma Harrell Canal 10k in Manchester, finishing in 55 minutes 15 seconds.
The Easingwold 10k also took place this weekend. Iain Yates was 1st for PRC with his time of 38 minutes 28 seconds, 22nd out of 646. Then came Karen Farmer-Scott in 48:36, 3rd F60 and Serena Partridge in 53:04.
