Kim Cavill and Alice Hayter ran the Inaugural Esk Valley Ultra which Kim described as “36 miles of loveliness”. The route starts with a 15 mile loop from Castleton showcasing the beautiful purple heather moorland then follows the Esk Valley Way to Whitby, going through lovely villages and woodland tracks. With over 4,000 feet of elevation there are some steep ups and downs. The event was organised by ‘Mind over Moors’ and the team did a good job of looking after everyone. They offered a free prize to the first person to ride the zip line at Danby Lodge, a challenge Kim couldn’t resist and was rewarded with a hoodie. Each competitor received a medal and refreshments at the end. Kim was 3rd female with her excellent time of 6 hours 39 minutes and, in addition to her hoodie, received a bronze fish trophy, the marker for the Esk Valley Way. Alice, despite still recovering from a recent injury, finished in 8:52 placing her 12th female.

On the other side of the world, Simon Tyrrell joined 2,924 runners in the Sunshine Coast Marathon in Australia. He had a fantastic run finishing in 3 hours 29 minutes which placed him 2nd M65 out of 17 and was 11 minutes faster than his 2017 time and his fastest marathon since 2022. Shirley Tyrrell also had an excellent run in the 10k and exceeded her expectations by crossing the finish line in 1 hour 4 minutes.

The Jane Tomlinson York 10k also took place this weekend. It is described as one of the country’s most beautiful city runs. The race starts and finishes on the Knavesmire and takes runners through the heart of York passing Clifford’s Tower and the Minster. It has grown in popularity with competitors this year. First back for PRC was Josie Rawes in a very impressive time of 36 minutes 42 seconds placing her 3rd female overall out of 3,059. Next was Richard Robinson in 41:12 closely followed by Ben Myers in 41:23, Ollie Baxter in 42:12 and Charles Corbett in 46:31. Steph Young and Lynsey Hatfield both achieved 10k personal bests. Steph crossed the finish line in 51:49 and Lynsey in 52:47. Megan Cummings was next in 53:18, followed by Lisa Adams in 64:10 and Daniel Baines in 69:32.
