The Beverley Half Marathon took place last Sunday on a fine but humid day. The undulating route took runners to the outskirts of Walkington and Bishop Burton. Simon Jones had a brilliant run, finishing 71st out of

1,588 competitors and 1st M55 with his time of 1hour 28 minutes. Paul Hickman crossed the line in 1:41. Steph Young also had an excellent race and thoroughly enjoyed the event. Steph crossed the line in 1:56. Karen Farmer-Scott finished in 1:59 and Colin Garnett, pacing his daughter Lucy aiming for a 2 hours, finished in 2:01.

The \"Move For Mental Health\" 5K charity run in Malton also took place on Sunday, raising funds and promoting awareness for the mental health charity Mind. Several members of PRC took part and enjoyed this supportive community event. The excellent cakes at the end were an added bonus.

Wednesday evening saw the 73rd running of the iconic Roseberry Topping Fell Race which was started to commemorate the queen’s coronation. This terrifying event packs 700 feet of steep ascent and descent into 1.3 miles. It may be the shortest fell race but it needs strength, fitness and nerves of steel to charge up the steep northern slope of Roseberry Topping then career back down again. If runners don’t watch their footing they could end up cheese rolling down which is not a good idea on the rocky surface. 91 runners took part so there was also the challenge of slower runners going up avoiding the faster ones speeding down. Alice Hayter was 1st back for Pickering in an excellent time of 20 minutes 13 seconds, placing her 3rd F50. Lucy Saggers was close behind in 20:52, earning her the prize for 1st F55. Nicola Thorpe won the 2nd F60 prize with her time of 21:35.
