Wow what a weekend for PRC runners

Another week of incredible accomplishments by PRC, some of them more sensible than others!

In a rash moment, Dean and Nicola Wise entered the Scilly555 organised by Wez Swain of Scilly60 fame. With very little training but lashings of optimism, they embarked upon the challenge to run 5 half marathons on 5 consecutive days on 5 different islands in the Scilly Isles. The routes followed technical rocky coastal paths and sandy beaches with a surprising total elevation of 6,000 feet of climb. Fortunately positive thinking won the day. The weather was perfect, the scenery beautiful and the support heartwarming. They were delighted to cross the finish line on the last beach 10th overall, the oldest couple to have completed the event.

Continuing the less than sensible theme, Lisa and Chris Adams drove to Inverness to run the Dramathon, with Lisa doing the Half Dram (13 miles) and Chris the Full Dram (26 miles). The course took them alongside the River Spey, famed for its whisky distilleries, into Dufftown. Lisa finished the half in 2 hours 49 minutes and Chris completed the full marathon in 5 hours 17 minutes. They were rewarded with a goody bag containing a variety of whisky miniatures and some shortbread to help soak it up!

A record number of runners, 15,000 took part in York Marathon this year, an undulating road race which goes through the centre of York, passing the Minster before heading out onto quiet country roads. Kirsty Brown achieved a brilliant personal best of 3 hours 41 minutes. Suzy Hodgson also had an excellent run clocking a personal best of 4:21and Dan Gleave finished in 4:47.

In the York 10 mile race Oliver Baxter crossed the finish line in a speedy 68 minutes 36 seconds followed by Paul Hickman in 74:36. Steph Young was buzzing with her excellent time of 84:21.

Debbie Rycroft ran the Soft Shoe Shuffle organised by ItsGrimUpNorth. Debbie had a great run finishing the half marathon in 2 hours 16 minutes placing her 4th F55.

The final race this week was the Gormire Gamble, the latest in the Winter Fell Race Series. It was a good turnout from PRC, collecting prizes for this hilly (1,000 feet of elevation) 6 miles race on the slopes above Lake Gormire near the White Horse Visitor Centre. First back for PRC was Mike Richmond, 1st M50 and 13th overall in a time of 46 minutes 46 seconds, close behind was Dave Smith who was 1st M55 in 46:58. Jonny Everitt was next in 49:02 followed by Simon Jones in 49:16, 3rd M55. Kelly Richmond was 3rd female with her time of 52:26. Kelly was followed by Paul Simpson, 53:12, Richard Robinson in 54:57, Charles Corbett in 57:44, Mike Wilson in 58:59, Lucy Saggers in 60:37, Paul Smith in 60:59, Sarah Beal in 61:19, Anna Bailey in 61:44, Alice Hayter in 61:48, 3rd F50 and Lynn Humpleby in 61:50. Karen Farmer-Scott was 1st F60 with her time of 62:18, then came David Stephenson in 64:35, Nick Cousins in 65:45, Sue Slack in 68:15, 1st F65, Serena Partridge in 75:56, Charlotte Dennison in 91:04 and Graham Robinson in 102:56.
