Kim Cavill ran the Jedburgh Three Peaks again after getting a free place from last year’s win. It is 38 miles and 5100ft of elevation along the St Cuthbert\'s Way and over the three Eildon hills. There are lovely runnable riverbank and wooded trails but the hills come at about 18 miles in and are very steep and rough in places. Kim managed to avoid the worst of the storm and the weather was fine until about 90 minutes from the end when the wind picked up and it started to rain. Underfoot was muddier than last year too and with lots of wooden steps, boardwalks and bridges, it was very slippery. Kim thoroughly enjoyed this lovely supportive event, especially the beautiful scenery of the Eildons, and was second female to cross the line with her time of 6 hours and 56 minutes. Emily Marner also completed the race but unfortunately got 3 wasp stings in the process and crossed the finish line in 8:30
It was a difficult decision for race organiser, Nick Cousins, as Storm Boelo raged across the moors whether or not to cancel the Lockton Limping, the 3rd event in the Winter Fell Race Series but he bravely went ahead and it was a good call. Although still very windy, the sun shone and runners enjoyed a blustery blast over Levisham Moors with some hairy slippery descents and strength zapping steep climbs totalling 1,500 feet of elevation over the 6.75 mile course. Dave Smith was first back for Pickering; his excellent time of 55 minutes and 58 seconds placed him 12th overall and 1st M55. Next came Mike Richmond in 58:25, earning him the prize for 1st M50. Less than a minute behind was Jonny Everitt in 59:17 closely followed by Simon Rycroft, 2nd M50, in 59:51, and Simon Jones in 60:57. Kelly Richmond earned the prize for 2nd female with her time of 61:08. Kelly was followed by
Nick Outram in 63:24, Paul Simpson in 67:16, Richard Robinson in 67:29, John-Henry Cheetham in 67:46, Jo Towler in 77:51, Sarah Beal in 79:17 and David Stephenson in 83:04. Sue Slack won gold in the F65 category with her time of 85:00. Charles Corbett, Rich Johnson and Paul Smith swept the course following the last runner home in 106 minutes and ensuring all were safely back and all signs of the race were removed. It was an excellent team event by Pickering Running Club with those not running, filling the various volunteering roles all overseen by Nick Cousins. Competitors were very complimentary about the excellently organised event and the supportive marshals out on the course.
