Sunday saw a clash of local races but despite this it was a good turnout for PRC for the third race in the East Yorkshire Cross Country League. The weather was bitterly cold but dry with a gentle breeze making it perfect for running. The sun even made a brief appearance near the end. The 6.7 mile route, based in Wetwang, took competitors along farm tracks, green lanes and field margins. Conditions underfoot were generally good but there was enough clarty mud to ensure everyone had a good spattering. A very speedy Richard Robinson was first back for Pickering Running Club in 46 minutes 58 seconds. Kirsty Brown was next in 50 minutes 47 seconds. Going from strength to strength Kirsty’s time placed her 6th female. Then came Charles Corbett in 52 minutes 9 seconds followed by Paul Smith whose time of 55 minutes 8 seconds, placed him 3rd M65.Dave Owuor came next in 56 minutes 29 seconds, followed by Richard Johnson in 56 minutes 48 seconds, Julie Ventress in 61 minutes 3 seconds, Suzy Hodgson in 63 minutes 40 seconds, Louise Bailey-Parkin in 65 minutes 27 seconds, Serena Partridge in 72 minutes 29 seconds and Dean Wise in 74 minutes 7 seconds. Others in PRC chose the latest counter in the Winter Fell Race Series for their Sunday race. A tougher option, the Cod Beck Canter was 10 miles of arduous running over the moors with just over 2,000 feet of climb but many were rewarded for their efforts with age category prizes. Jayson Cavill was first back for Pickering in a very swift 1 hour 15 minutes placing him 1st M45. Darren Smith was next in 1 hour 21 minutes followed by Mike Richmond in 1 hour 24 minutes. Simon Rycroft was 2nd M50 with his time of 1 hour 26 minutes and Kelly Richmond’s time of 1 hour 33 minutes placed her 3rd in the female open category. Lucy loved the route and was 2nd F50. Nicola Thorpe was 2nd F55 in 1 hour 54 minutes and Nick Cousins clocked 1 hour 57 minutes. Sue Slack was delighted to exceed her expectations with her time of 1 hour 59 minutes which placed her 2nd F60. Sue thoroughly enjoyed the route and loves the camaraderie found in the fell racing community. David Stephenson was next in 2 hours 1 minute and Debbie Rycroft crossed the finish line in 2 hours 3 minutes.
The Hardmoors Saltburn races also took place on Sunday. Simon Jones ran the Half Marathon, 15 miles with over 2,000 feet of climb. Simon Jones made short work of the challenging course. His time of 2 hours 3 minutes placed him 2nd M50. Chris Adams ran with son George crossing the line in 3 hours 6 minutes. Graham Robinson chose the 10k option, 7.5 miles with nearly 1,000 feet of climb. His time of 2 hours 6 minutes was only 5 minutes slower than last year which was remarkable given he now has to carry an extra 12lb oxygen tank.
