On Saturday Ben Myers and Paul Hickman competed in races organised by Evensplits on Rufforth airfield. Needless to say the course was completely flat but runners had a strong wind to contend with. Ben chose the 5 mile option and ran flat out to finish in a super speedy 30 minutes 49 seconds which placed him 11th overall out of 197 competitors. Paul opted for the 10 mile distance. He paced himself perfectly crossing the finish line in an impressive 1 hour 16 minutes placing him in the top third of runners and top half of the M55 category.
Louise Bailey-Parkin tackled the Grasmere Sprint Duathlon. A stunningly beautiful setting, Grasmere is surrounded by a panorama of fells and mountains. The home of William Wordsworth, he described it as ‘The most loveliest spot that man hath found.” This event is therefore understandably popular. It consists of a 5k run around Grasmere on paths and trails followed by a 20k bike ride towards Elterwater then a final 2.5k sprint across the finish line. This was Louise’s first attempt at a duathlon and she loved it. She will definitely be back for more.
