More success for PRC

The Hardwolds 40 took place on Saturday. The title is somewhat misleading as the route is actually 48 miles. Runners are lulled into a false sense of security with the first miles following the flat disused railway track out of Beverley. Then the fun starts as they head up onto the wolds, 4,633 feet of steep climbs and descents worth of fun! Although warm for running there was at least a gentle breeze on the tops to help cool runners and plenty of well-stocked food and drinks stations with cheery supportive marshals. 106 made it across the finish line. Emily Marner achieved an excellent time of 10 hours 8 minutes placing her 39th overall and Sue Slack was justifiably delighted with her time of 10 hours 27 minutes which placed her 45th overall and 2nd F60 all helping her to raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Martin Dennison also achieved a good time of 11 hours 16 minutes. Chris Adams was sweeper ensuring no one fell by the wayside and was on his feet for a literally staggering 17 hours 17 minutes.
Karen Farmer-Scott, Lucy Saggers, Serena Partridge and Simon Jones ran the event as a relay team. They finished in 8 hours 40 minutes winning them the first place trophy.
On Sunday Shawn Imeson took part in the Great North 10k which takes runners through the city of Newcastle incorporating all the sights. Shawn enjoyed the event and crossed the finish line a commendable time of 51 minutes 9 seconds.

It was a hot Tuesday evening for the final race in the York and District Road Race League, Wistow 10k. The fast, flat, figure of eight course, took the 425 runners along quiet country lands through arable farmland. It was a good turnout from PRC again with some runners really pleased with their times while for others the heat took its toll leaving them disappointed. First back for PRC and was Richard Robinson in 40 minutes 47 seconds, maintaining his strong form throughout the series. Mike Richmond was very close behind in 40 minutes 57 seconds. Mike was followed by Peter Kelham in 41 minutes 40 seconds and Paul Hickman in 43 minutes 41 seconds. Kirsty Brown was justifiably delighted to achieve a 10k personal best, breaking the 45 minute barrier with 44 minutes 44 seconds, 22nd female out of 164. Then came Dave Owuor in 46 minutes 27 seconds, Ben Paviour 47 minutes 4 seconds, Mike Wilson in 48 minutes 41 seconds, Serena Partridge in 52 minutes 31 seconds and Julie Ventress in 53 minutes 43 seconds. Julie was followed by Nike Cousins in 54 minutes 27 seconds and Suzy Hodgson in 54 minutes 6 seconds. Only 3 days after completing the Hardwolds 40, Emily Marner crossed the finish line in 56 minutes 22 seconds followed by Shawn Imeson in 57 minutes 15 seconds, Paul Tate-Smith in 57 minutes 32 seconds, and Dean Wise in 61 minutes 6 seconds. There followed an exciting battle for the finish line between Sally Brown and Mike Punchard with Sally inching ahead in 62 minutes 46 seconds just 1 second ahead of Mike’s 62 minutes 47 seconds. Nicola Wise crossed the finish line in 64 minutes 47 seconds followed by Carol Wilson who had to walk the last mile or so due to a painful Achilles tendon and valiantly made it to the finish in 73 minutes 37 seconds, still well within the time limit and far from last.
The times from the 6 10k races of the series will be used to work out the starting order for the reverse handicap ‘fun’ in 2 weeks time!
