A warm week for running

Ryan Gaughan competed in the DalesRunner30 based in Muker. The beautiful 20 mile route takes in Tan Hill Inn, Britain’s highest pub and has 3,000 feet of climb. Ryan had an excellent run coming in 5th overall out of over 100 runners achieving a time of 2 hours 47 minutes.

5 PRC runners took part in the Eight Stations Ultra organised by Charm Bracelet Events. The 30 mile route over the moors starts in Whitby and finishes in Pickering going through Grosmont and Goathland on the way. It was a very hot day which made the 3,200 feet of elevation very tough indeed. Runners were encouraged by supportive marshals at the excellent food and water stations. Ruth Kaftirani ran brilliantly, her time of 6 hours 8 minutes placing her 4th female. Next was Paul Simpson in 6 hours 54 minutes, followed by Ollie Baxter in 7 hours 3 minutes, Andrew Bates in 7 hours 46 minutes and Clare Mawrey in 10 hours 3 minutes. Of the 239 competitors,15 didn’t make it to the finish line.

Ripon triathlons took place on Sunday. Sally Brown and Shirley Tyrrell did the 1,500m swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run event. It was a very hot day and although the swim in Ripon Lake was cool, the bike ride and especially the run were tough going. Sally was justifiably pleased with her time of 3 hours 37 minutes which placed her 1st F60 and Shirley was 2nd F60 in 4 hours 5 minutes. The icing on the cake was meeting the inspirational triathlete, Alistair Brownlee, at the end.

Although not running, Bridget Houlston of PRC deserves a mention for competing in the Ulswater Lake swim. Bridget swam the 7.5 mile length of Ulswater in 4 hours 18 minutes, a prodigious achievement.

PRC Club Championships were held in Dalby Forest on the hottest, most humid evening of the summer so far. In addition runners and marshals had to contend with thick clouds of insects. Despite all this, it was a thoroughly enjoyable event with fierce competition for the age category trophies. Results are as follows:
