Osmotherley Show Fell Race took place last weekend. With only 85 competitors, this low key race took runners on a scenic 6.5 mile route across the moors with some steep ascents totalling over 1,000 feet of climb. James Loftus was first back for Pickering in an excellent time of 51 minutes 20 seconds placing him 22nd overall. James was followed by Paul Smith whose time of 58 minutes 33 seconds earned him a prize for 1st M65. Nicola Thorpe’s time of 66 minutes 24 seconds placed her 2nd F55. Alice Hayter also earned a prize, her time of 70 minutes 38 minutes placed her 2nd F45 despite a spectacular tumble leaving her muddy and grazed.

York 10k was a very different event. A busy, flat race through the centre of York with over 4,700 runners. The tight corners made the going congested in places, frustrating for those chasing a personal best. The rain held off but a cooling shower would have been good for the runners, not so much for the crowds lining the route. Chris Croft was justifiably pleased with his very impressive time of 36 minutes 41 seconds placing him 64th overall. Ryan Gaughan was next in 43 minutes 9 seconds. Suzy Hodgson was very close to her aim of a sub 50 minute 10k, crossing the line in 50 minutes 38 seconds. Lisa Adams crossed the line in 62 minutes 59 seconds while son George sprinted to the finish in 43 minutes 19 seconds.

Pam and Colin Garnett took part in the Run the Raid half marathon. The gorgeous route took them from Spittal (south of Berwick) down the coast, through the dunes and across the causeway to Holy Island finishing at the castle. It was very warm with a cheeky steep up and down at the end. Colin crossed the line in 1 hour 56 minutes and Pam finished in 2 hours 42 minutes. They thoroughly enjoyed the route but not the heat!
