It has been a very quiet week for runners with no local races but Tom Pilley of Pickering Running Club took part in the Triglav Lakes Marathon in Slovenia. This demanding trail run through the Julian Alps has nearly 8,000 feet of climbing rewarding participants with picturesque vistas of mountains and crystal clear lakes. Tom paced the run perfectly holding on for the uphills and striding out on the descents. His excellent time of 6 hours 1 minute placed him 17th overall out of 112 finishers.
Many runners from PRC regularly run or volunteer at the Dalby parkrun every Saturday at 9am. If you are thinking of taking up running, want to improve your 5k time, or simply want to enjoy running round a beautiful forest with supportive, friendly people, why not give it a go. Volunteering is a good way to see what it is all about and why it is so popular. Just check out the website or FaceBook page. Parkruns take place across the country and round the world and as Simon and Shirley Tyrrell proved, on the other side of the world! They ran the Broken Hill parkrun in New South Wales, Australia. Hazards mentioned in the briefing included kangaroos and emus! No such hazards in Dalby Forest!!
