All types of weather in one weekend!

The stand out performances this week go to the brave souls competing in the Hardmoors 60 in the absolutely brutal conditions of last Saturday. This 60 mile race starts in Guisborough and follows the Cleveland Way to Filey. From start to finish runners had to contend with torrential rain and gale force winds, often battling along exposed cliff tops. Of the 180 runners, 90 were either timed out or just succumbed to the gruelling conditions.
Karen Williams, Chris Adams and Martin Dennison of PRC were all timed out at Ravenscar having reached the checkpoint only a few minutes after it closed. It is devastating to get so far but not finish. Although it is difficult at the time, they need to be proud of their amazing achievement of completing 56 miles with a huge 10,770 feet of elevation in those conditions.

To add insult to injury the weather for the races on Sunday was dry and sunny. There was a good turnout for the Fryup Frazzler Fell Race, the last event in the Summer Series. The 5.9 mile route had 1,300 feet of elevation with technical and slippery conditions underfoot. Rich Johnson was first back for PRC in 1 hour 5 minutes closely followed by Paul Smith in 1 hour 6 minutes, earning him a prize for 2nd M65. Lucy Saggers was next in 1 hour 9 minutes with Nick Cousins only 4 seconds behind also clocking 1 hour 9 minutes. Alice Hayter crossed the finish line in 1 hour 15 minutes followed by Mike Punchard in 1 hour 25 minutes.

Sue Slack and David Stephenson did well in the Brown Clee Burn, an 11k race near Ludlow. It is a tough, multi terrain run with something for everyone: steep technical climbs, long descents and amazing views washed crystal clear by the rain the previous day. David was 21st male and Sue was 12th female out of 74 finishers. David’s time was 1 hour 9 minutes and Sue was close behind in 1 hour 11 minutes. A really friendly event with egg and sausage butties at the finish!

Kirsty Brown had a brilliant run at the ABP Humber Coastal10k near Cleethorpes. Despite being slowed down by a headwind Kirsty achieved a time of 44 minutes 38 seconds.

Paul Simpson also had a good run in the Equinox 10k along the cycle track in Heslington Sports Village. Paul was 5th in a time of 43 minutes 33 seconds.
