A record breaking week for PRC

Wow, it was a spectacular weekend of running for PRC with some stellar performances helped by perfect autumn weather.

Over 6,500 runners took part in the York Marathon. Ryan Gaughan was first back for Pickering in a marathon personal best of 2 hours 49 minutes. Chris Croft, also achieving a personal best, was only 2 minutes behind in 2 hours 51 minutes. Simon Jones came next in 3 hours 16 minutes. Kirsty Brown knocked a massive 20 minutes off her marathon time crossing the line in 3 hours 42 minutes. Paul Hickman was close behind in 3 hours 43 minutes, followed by Paul Simpson in 3 hours 54 minutes, John Cheetham in 3 hours 55 minutes and Adam Lloyd in 4 hours 6 minutes. For the second year, Graham Robinson ran with his vital oxygen tank, weighing 11lbs, raising funds for Asthma Uk. He found the first half tough then felt better in the second half despite having wind and rain to contend with. He crossed the line in 6 hours 41 minutes and was grateful for support from Simon Tyrrell who ran with him and for Shirley Tyrrell who supplied him with a change of oxygen cylinder on route. Graham also achieved his 200th parkrun at Dalby the previous day.

Serena Partridge chose to run the York 10 mile race and finished strongly in 1 hour 24 minutes.

Simon Rycroft ran the Dales Dazzler 50 based at Skipton. The 52 mile route takes runners over the Pennines with a total climb of over 6,200 feet. Simon’s time of 10 hours 27 minutes placed him 2nd M50 and qualifies him for the prestigious Chianti Castles Ultra in Italy.

Andrew Bates likes to travel abroad for races and this weekend saw him running the Palma de Mallorca half marathon for the 4th time. He was pleased with his time of 1 hour 50 minutes, his best yet and 4 minutes faster than last year. Needless to say it was hot!

PRC had a good showing in the latest race in the Fell Race Series, The Gormire Gamble, a 5.8 mile route with nearly 1,000 feet of climb and technical descents on rocks and leaves. Robbie Preston was first back for PRC finishing in 44 minutes 11 seconds placing him 6th overall. Tom Pilley was 2nd M40 in 45 minutes 28 seconds and 11th overall. Then came Russ Grayson in 54 minutes 1 second, Mike Wilson in 59 minutes 24 seconds, 2nd M65, Lucy Saggers in 59 minutes 43 seconds, 2nd F55, David Stephenson in 61 minutes 33 seconds, Nicola Thorpe in 61 minutes 57 seconds, Lynn Humpleby in 63 minutes 34 seconds, Alice Hayter in 66 minutes 20 seconds and Mike Punchard in 81 minutes 14 seconds.

Scarborough 10k, a fast and furious dash along Marine Drive, also took place on Sunday in perfect conditions.
Ben Myers led the chase for PRC in 38 minutes 51 seconds placing him 36th out of 2,000 runners. Ben was followed by Richard Robinson in 40 minutes 6 seconds, Paul Robinson in 49 minutes 53 seconds, 3rd M70, Shawn Imeson in 54 minutes 38 seconds, Lizzy Gibson in 61 minutes 35 seconds, Nicola Wise in 63 minutes 3 seconds and Debi Adams in 74 minutes 16 seconds. Only 11 weeks after having a heart attack and subsequent open heart surgery, Dean Wise was nervous going into his first post recovery race. He took it steady finishing strongly in 76 minutes 10 seconds.
