Kim Cavill joined 129 intrepid runners in the Jedburgh Three Peaks race, a quirky 38 mile race with 4,800 feet of ascent. It\'s a balloon shape route, with a beautiful stretch out on the St Cuthbert\'s Way along woodland and riverside trails, glorious with the fallen leaves and very crisp autumn weather. The climb over the Eildons, was tough with steep, rough sections. After 26 miles runners had to go through a playpark where the official route took them along two rope bridges, up a climbing frame and down a slide! Kim led the women\'s race from the start and ended up with the win in 6 hours 35 minutes crossing the line to Gangnam Style. Kim described the race as fantastic, friendly and bonkers!
11 Pickering runners took part in the latest race in the Winter Fell Race Series, Lockton Limping, a 7 mile, mud strewn route over Levisham moor with 1,300 feet of climb. Robbie Preston was 1st back for PRC in 51 minutes 21 seconds placing him 8th overall out of 133 finishers. Dave Smith was next in 56 minutes 44 seconds, 3rd M55, 19th overall. Then came Mike Richmond in 57 minutes 59 seconds, Richard Robinson in 62 minutes 22 seconds, Russ Grayson in 63 minutes 42 seconds and Dave Owuor in 71 minutes 41 seconds. Only 1 week after her triumph at York Marathon, Kirsty Brown finished in 72 minutes 33 seconds, a 2 minute personal best. Emily Loftus was close behind in 73 minutes 18 seconds, followed be Lucy Saggers in 74 minutes 33 seconds, 3rd F55, Nicola Thorpe in 77 minutes 59 seconds and Alice Hayter in 81 minutes 13 seconds, 3rd F45. Richard Johnson and Simon Tyrrell were sweepers and other members of PRC marshalled and timed, all expertly organised by Nick Cousins.
Some late presentations from the Summer Series were made after the race. Nicola Thorpe was awarded a lovely hand thrown mug for winning the F55 category and 5th female overall and Lynn Humpleby was presented with the Summer Series Endurance Award.
David Stephenson ran the Stroud Half Marathon and was pleased to achieve his first sub 2 hour time, crossing the finish line in 1 hour 58 minutes.
Ben Myers competed in the Hardmoors Turnpike Trot, 5.5 miles with just over 1,000 feet of climb. His speedy time of 44 minutes 41 seconds placed him 2nd overall out of 48 finishers.
Lisa Adams ran the Hardmoors Rabbit Run with 10 year old daughter Lucy. They made light work of the 500 feet of climb to finish in 44 minutes 1 second, 30 seconds quicker than last year while son George ran the Turnpike Trot in 50 minutes 21 seconds placing him 2nd under18.
Simon and Debbie Rycroft joined 275 runners in the Petzl Night Runner 10k in Delamere Forest near Chester. As the same suggests runners wear head torches to navigate the forest in the dark. Only a week after completing an ultra, Simon Rycroft crossed the finish line in 52 minutes 12 seconds placing him1st M50.
Debbie Rycroft finished in 76 minutes 6 minutes.
Andrew Bates returned to his roots to run the Tamworth 10k and was rewarded with a personal best of 48 minutes 3 seconds.
