A great weekend for running

It was a lovely sunny Saturday for competitors running the Kilburn Kanter, a beautiful 25.2 mile route through the gorgeous but very hilly countryside around Sutton Bank and Rievaulx. The total climb was over 3,600 feet.

Lucy Saggers and Nicola Thorpe ran together and both thoroughly enjoyed the event, a fine showcase for the gorgeous autumn colours. Their excellent times of 5 hours 49 minutes and 5 hours 51 minutes respectively placed them 27th and 28th out of 145 competitors.

The weekend also saw the running of the Gunpowder Plod, organised by SeeYorkRunYork. Runners could choose various distances over a lapped course on the Knavesmire. Richard Robinson certainly didn’t plod! His super speedy time of 64 minutes 3 seconds for the 15k option earned him 1st place, 4 minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Paul Simpson also put in a fast performance running 5k in 32 minutes 45 seconds.

Rich Johnson competed in the Derwent Water 10 which describes itself as the UK’s most scenic 10 mile road race. Based in Keswick, the undulating route goes around Derwent Water. Rich was comfortably in the top half of the 403 runners with his competitive time of 1 hour 28 minutes.
