Another action packed week for PRC

It was a glorious morning of sunshine for runners tackling the At the Double Fell Race on Saturday but the icy, muddy conditions underfoot needed all their concentration. Competitors could only glance at the coastal scenery near Skinningrove as they made their way along the hazardous 6.3 mile route with hills totalling over1,000 feet of climb. First back for PRC was Robbie Preston, his time of 47 minutes 43 seconds placed him an impressive 4th overall out 98 runners. Lucy Saggers also had a good run and was 2nd F55 with her time of 69 minutes 23 seconds. Alice Hayter was 3rd F45, clocking 72 minutes 52 seconds, Lynn Humpleby finished in 79 minutes 54 seconds and Serena Partridge was 3rd F50 with her time of 87 minutes 18 seconds.

The weather was not so kind to those running the latest race in the East Yorkshire Cross Country League on Sunday. Dean Wise of PRC was race director for this inaugural event in Dalby Forest and many members of Pickering Running Club and Scarborough Running Club were out on the course marshalling in Baltic conditions of icy winds. The 6 mile route of muddy ice and slush had 3 hefty climbs totalling 750 feet of ascent. First back for Pickering was Richard Robinson, his excellent time of 47 minutes 25 seconds placed him 36th out of 260 finishers. Kelly Richmond also had a great run finishing in 48 minutes 20 seconds, 4th female overall. Steve Lightfoot was next in 54 minutes 28 seconds, followed by Kirsty Brown in 56 minutes and David Owuor in 57 minutes 51 seconds. Paul Smith’s time of 57 minutes 58 seconds placed him 3rd M65 followed by Charles Corbett in 58 minutes 20 seconds. Karen Farmer-Scott was 1st F60 with her time of 58 minutes 53 seconds. Richard Johnson wasn’t far behind in 59 minutes 3 seconds, then came Andrew Garside in 65 minutes 28 seconds. Josie Rawes, on course for 1st female, unfortunately broke her ankle. She was helped by fellow runners and marshals, including Mike Richmond and Simon Jones, who then went on to finish the race in 68 minutes 13 seconds. Suzy Hodgson crossed the finish line in 75 minutes 18 seconds. Runners were very appreciative of the wonderful array of cakes and drinks provided by Pickering at the finish. Thanks go to Dean Wise for organising and to everyone who helped make this addition to the league races a success. Best wishes go to Josie for a speedy recovery and we all look forward to her leading the pack again soon.
