I’m It felt like spring for the 1,570 runners in the annual Snake Lane 10 miler based in Pocklington, with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze. The race gets its name from the sinuous path along the foothills of the Wolds, along which a long line of brightly coloured runners can be seen snaking their way to the main road before heading back home. First back for Pickering Running Club was Ryan Gaughan in speedy 1 hour 3 minutes, placing him 77th overall. He was closely followed by Chris Croft in 1 hour 4 minutes, Simon Jones in 1 hour 6 minutes, Mike Richmond in 1 hour 7 minutes and Kelly Richmond, only 5 months after giving birth, had an amazing race, finishing in 1 hour 8 minutes. Richard Robinson was next in 1 hour 9 minutes, followed by Kirsty Brown in 1 hour 10 minutes, a 10 mile personal best, Steve Lightfoot in 1 hour 12 minutes and Dave Owuor in 1 hour 18 minutes. Paul Hickman crossed the finish line in 1 hour 19 minutes with Lucy Saggers only 22 seconds behind also clocking 1 hour 19 minutes. Mike Wilson finished in 1 hour 22 minutes, followed by Carol Wilson in 1 hour 31 minutes and Amanda Welburn-Smith, returning to racing after a long break, finished in 1 hour 49 minutes. She was followed by the final four, all nursing somewhat disgusting colds! Lisa and Chris Adams crossed the finish line together in 1 hour 50 minutes, followed by Nicola Wise in 1 hour 52 minutes and Dean Wise in 2 hours 8 minutes
Paul Simpson ran the Winter Warmer half marathon, a lapped course on York Knavesmire, in 1 hour 46 minutes.
Also based around the Knavesmire, was the SeeYorkRunYork Social Marathon Day, which took place on 26th February (26/2). Competitors could run as many of the 3.5 mile, multi terrain laps as they wanted within the 6 hour cutoff. Dean and Nicola Wise took part with daughter Lizzy Gibson. Lizzy, 6 months pregnant, completed 10 miles. Thanks to Steph, Karen and Megan at Cardiac Rehab, Malton Hospital, Dean completed 17 miles. Nicola completed the full marathon, 26.2 miles, and despite being the oldest female taking part, she was pleased to be 5th female overall. It was a wonderfully inclusive event fuelled by delicious homemade cakes, chatter and encouragement.
