Pam and Colin Garnett joined over 27,500 runners in the Tokyo Marathon. Over 300,000 applied! Despite it being a tad warm for long distance running, Colin finished in 3 hours and 44 minutes and Pam crossed the finish line in 5 hours 33 minutes. This completed their 6 major marathon quest, earning them the coveted Abbott World Majors 6 star medal.
The Eskdale Eureka took place in fine, warm, sunny weather on Sunday. This latest event in the Winter Fell Race series was nearly 9 miles with over 1,600 feet of climb across the moors with some technical conditions underfoot. Despite rolling his ankle early in the race, Robbie Preston was 3rd overall in a super swift time of 1 hour 9 minutes. He was 1st in category having been pipped at the post by an under 23, and an over 40. Mike Richmond was next in 1 hour 18 minutes, placing him 3rd M45, and 15th overall. Simon Jones was 2nd M55 with his time of 1 hour 21 minutes. Kelly Richmond’s excellent time of 1 hour 27 minutes placed her 1st in the open female category and 3rd female overall. Then came Richard Robinson in 1 hour 31 minutes and Lucy Saggers time of 1 hour 39 minutes secured her the 2nd F55 spot. Alice Hayter’s time of 1 hour 43 minutes was a massive 6 minute improvement on last year. Lynn Humpleby crossed the line next in 1 hour 53 minutes followed by Serena Partridge in 2 hours 4 minutes. The Pickering Men’s Team were 4th, and the ladies team 2nd. Pickering Ladies are currently top of the leader board for the series with 4 races to go.
The East Yorkshire Cross Country League booked an extra venue in case any races were cancelled due to snow, as happened last year. This year it wasn’t needed, so many club runners enjoyed a lovely, sunny, social, chatty run around Wetwang followed by drinks and cake. An excellent way to spend a Sunday morning.
