On Saturday, Shawn Imeson ran the Berlin Mile in 8 minutes 19 seconds followed by the Half Marathon on Sunday in 1 hour 57 minutes taking in the sights of Berlin together with 42,563 other runners making it one of the biggest half marathons in the world.
Sunday also saw the 11th event, out of 13, in the Winter Fell Race Series, The Commondale Clart. There was a plethora of prizes for PRC. As the name suggests, the 5.5 mile route has its fair share of clarty bogs to navigate and with a strong wind and with nearly 1,000 feet of climb this relatively short fell race packed a punch. Robbie Preston thought he was 3rd on his way to the finish but the leader took a wrong turn and so Robbie fortuitously ended up second overall out of 95 finishers. He had to push himself to the limit to clock a brilliant time of 37 minutes 8 seconds, a course personal best. Dave Smith was next, his time of 42 minutes 59 seconds earned him the prize for 2nd M55. Dave was followed by Simon Rycroft in 47 minutes 59 seconds and Richard Robinson finished in 49 minutes 3 seconds despite taking a wrong turn. It was Lynn Humpleby’s kind of race and she attacked it with gusto to finish 1st F45 with her time of 54 minutes 45 seconds. It was a battle for the finish line between Lynn and Alice Hayter who was only 3 seconds after Lynn crossing the line in 54 minutes 48 seconds, 7 minutes faster than last year and placing her 2nd F45. Lucy Saggers was 2nd F55 with her time of 58 minutes 16 seconds and Jo Towler finished in 58 minutes 48 seconds which placed her 2nd F50. Suzy Hodgson was 3rd F50 in 63 minutes 34 seconds and returning from injury Debbie Rycroft finished in 71 minutes 41 seconds. The ladies are still in line for the team prize for the series. It all hinges on the last two races, watch this space!
