Road and Trails this weekend

On the evening of Tuesday 12th, 464 runners, watched by a curious herd of cattle, stood poised on the start line of Pocklington 10k, the second race in the York & District Road Race League. The course is an out and back. The first half being largely uphill as runners climb the scarp slope of the Wolds then at the halfway turnaround they can enjoy careering back down, shouting encouragement to those still struggling with the steep gradients. This, together, with the excellent marshals gives this race a great atmosphere with everyone feeling well supported. The weather was set fair for the start but the dark, threatening clouds drenched runners with a mix of rain and hail part way in. At least overheating wasn’t a problem!
First back for Pickering was Simon Jones, 3rd M55, in a time of 39 minutes 40 seconds, placing him 47th overall, a great achievement after his half marathon win 2 days previously. Richard Robinson was next in 40:00 followed by Kelly Richmond in 41:13. Both Mike Richmond and Kirsty Brown had excellent runs after Leeds marathon at the weekend with Mike clocking 41:49 and Kirsty crossing the finish line in 45:50. Jonny Everitt was hot on her heels in 45:59, then came Peter Kelham in 46:22, Paul Hickman in 46:28, Charles Corbett in 47:53, Andy Reeves in 48:39, Dave Owuor in 48:59, Ben Paviour in 49:39, Serena Partridge in 49:54 and Mike Wilson in 50:04. Paul Robinson was 1st M70 for the second race in a row with his time of 50:35. Suzy Hodgson was next in 51:25, then came Sarah Beal in 52:51, Nick Cousins in 53:10, Lynsey Hatfield in 55:13, Shawn Imeson in 55:36, Chloe Riley in 56:57, Lydia Adrian in 59:08, Paul Tate-Smith in 59:41 and Karen Harper in 61:20. Chris Adams took it steady after completing the White Horse Marathon at the weekend and finished in 64:25 followed by Nicola Wise in 66:35, Heather Riley in 70:38 and Dean Wise in 70:44.

It was a glorious weekend for the Keswick Mountain Festival. Anna Bailey completed the 10k Trail Run in 65:22. The Dennison family ran the 5k trail run. Martin ran with son Henry finishing in 34:47 and Charlotte ran with daughter Liv crossing the line in 39:56

The Cleveland Triathlon also took place at the weekend. Sally Brown and Shirley Tyrrell tackled the sprint tri, a 0.5k swim followed by a 10 mile bike ride and a 5k run. Sally Brown completed the challenge in 1 hour 33 minutes and Shirley crossed the finish line in 1 hour 36 minutes.
