Wow what a week for PRC

The standout performances this week go to Ryan Gaughan and Emily Loftus who took part in the Hardwolds 110, that’s 110 miles! The race starts at Filey and runs the whole length of the Cleveland Way to Helmsley all in one go. This is daunting enough without taking place in a heatwave during which the highest temperatures for May were recorded. Among many other problems related to running so far, it is very difficult to drink enough to remain well hydrated which is why so many did not make it to the finish. Ryan Gaughan was in pole position but decided to call it a day after 11 hours 45 minutes, having run 65 miles and climbed 8,724 feet of elevation at a blistering pace of 10:45 minute/miles faster than many people can run a 5k parkrun! He was very grateful for all the support from PRC, his crew and all the wonderful marshals en route.
Emily Marner was also keeping up with the front runners when she decided to stop due to a very sore glute. Emily completed 52 miles and nearly 6,000 feet of climb. The injury had been niggling during training so, although pulling out of a race is always a difficult decision, it was one she expected. Despite this Emily “absolutely loved’ the event and had a fabulous day. Congratulations to both Ryan and Emily for truly awesome achievements.
Lynn Humpleby took part in the Nidderdale 10k. This stunning off-road route through ancient woodland and across moorland has 1,155 feet of climb. Lynn had a great race, despite the heat, finishing in a very impressive 68 minutes 51 seconds. The event raises awareness of the plight of curlews and funds for their protection.

Steph Young ran the Scarborough Race for Life 10k and despite the heat achieved her 2nd best 10k time.

Easingwold 10k, the third race in the York & District Road Race League took place on Tuesday evening. Although a little cooler than the weekend, it was still hot for running. The course on closed roads started with gentle undulations but then came the steep climb up to the village of Crayke. Runners were rewarded with an expansive view over the Vale of York and a much needed water station. A farmer provided a sprinkler across the road near a sneaky hill at 7k to cool runners ready for the mad dash to the finish. First back for Pickering was Ben Myers in a speedy 39 minutes 55 seconds, followed by Richard Robinson in 41 minutes 4 seconds, Kelly Richmond in 41 minutes 40 seconds, Mike Richmond in 42:01, Peter Kelham in 43:55, Johnny Everitt in 44:14 and Kirsty Brown in 45:02. Next came Adam Lloyd in 46:07 followed by Paul Hickman in 46:39, Charles Corbett in 48:33, Dave Owuor in 49:00 and Colin Garnett in 49:12. Paul Robinson continues to reign supreme in the M70 category, claiming top spot for the 3rd race in a row with his time of 50:17. Mike Wilson was 3rd M65 crossing the line in 51:01. Mike was followed by Andrew Bates in 51:27, Elizabeth Halliwell in 51:39, Suzy Hodgson in 53:23, Sarah Beal in 54:12, Lynsey Hatfield in 55:39, Lydia Adrian in 58:43 and Chris Adams in 58:44. Carol Wilson earned bronze position in the F65 category with her time of 59:28. Following Carol was Karen Harper in 62:01, Paul Tate-Smith in 62:08, Pam Garnett in 64:30, Sally Brown in 65:13, Nicola Wise in 65:47 and Dean Wise in 74:51.
