A brilliant week of running

On Wednesday evening, 95 runners assembled on the edge of the North York Moors ready for the start of Whorlton Fell Race, the latest event in the Summer Fell Race Series. The 7 mile route took runners up onto the moors with over 1,000 feet of climb. Robbie Preston was the first back for PRC and 7th overall storming home in 49 minutes 26 seconds. Richard Robinson was next in 56:04. Returning to fell racing after a long break Russ Grayson loved being back on the moors and crossed the line in 58:19. Malc Hodgson’s time of 59:27 earned him the prize for 2nd M60. Malc was followed by Paul Smith in 63:29 and Rich Johnson in 65:04. Continuing her dominance in the F50 category, Alice Hayter bagged 1st place in 66:08 but only just. Jo Towler was hot on her heels, 14 seconds behind in 66:22 claiming 2nd F50 place. Kelly Barrett completed the Sardinia Ironman 70.3 Alghero. The race description boasts clear, turquoise waters but doesn’t mention the strong currents! Kelly had to swim more than the 1.9k as she fought the currents but still finished in 46 minutes 38 seconds. She completed the 90k coastal bike ride in 3 hours 42 minutes and the 21.1k run in 2 hours 17 minutes totalling 7 hours 2 minutes, an awesome achievement.

Shawn Imeson ran the Blaydon Races, a 6 mile charge through the streets of Newcastle in pouring rain. There was a great atmosphere though encouraging Shawn to finish in 51 minutes 50 seconds.

The 4th race in the York & District Road Race League took place on Tuesday evening.
